In a Heartbeat

"In a heartbeat" is a 4 minute short film created by Beth David and Esteban Bravo. It´s the story of a boy who has a crush on another boy, he tries to hide it cause he doesn´t want the other boy to know. In the end the other boy eventually founds out and goes with him and they sit together down a tree. Of couse it went viral, is such a beautiful story with a great message for all the boys and girls in the world who are afraid of telling how they really feel or who they really are. It´s so important this kind of representation because there isn´t much. But of course not all the respond was good, I saw the video on youtube, instagram, facebook and twitter and I took the time to read most of the comments and that´s why I´m making this rant. I saw two kinds of comments, the most "popular" were "It doesnt look like a lovestory" and "Why are they making this type of content for the children, it will make them imitate and become like this"

So lets start with "IT DOESNT LOOK LIKE A LOVESTORY" I saw the video with a friend, and she actually told me this one, that it seemed like a friendship and all I could think about was ´´Come on, the boy is nervous as hell, his own heart jumped out of his body for the other boy how can you tell me this is a freaking friendship? And now I understand, people think this way for two reasons: 1. They dont want to see this content going viral because they are not used to see it and thats what takes us to realization number two, 2. Representation DOES matter. Even if it´s 2017 it´s still not normalized to see two boys falling in love, I mean yeah The LGBT+ community is farther from the 90´s but there isn´t much representation I mean of course there are movies, series, books, songs but not in the way it should be. There should be more, and they should be going viral so everyone in the world can see them and inspire them to make more content like this. I think that would make a great step, so everyone can see the beauty of it, and all it takes within.

"WHY ARE THEY MAKING THIS TYPE OF CONTENT IT WILL MAKE MY CHILDREN GAY" yeah yeah I read like hundreds of these comments, comments that lead into fights and agreements. Comments like "You don´t born being gay, you are made gay" or "There isn´t a gay chromosome" People COME ON, wake up. If having two heterosexual parents doesn´t stop you son from being gay, trust me that two gay parents won´t make your son gay either and seing two girls/boys falling in love in a movie/series/book etc WON´T make your son/daughter gay. I saw a meme that said "People are gay Steven" and I wish a lot of people understand that, you are who you are, and people are who they are and you have to accept it because there is nothing wrong for being yourself.

I know that there are a lot of homophobic people and that to make them understand and make them stop the hate, the fear is hard. I know, we know but that´s why it is important to represent every sexuality of the LGBT+ community. Because the title is IN A HEARTBEAT not IN A FRIENDSHIP.
