I am a feminist because I experienced slut-shaming in high school and thought that was “normal”. When I reached university I realized how wrong I was and took it upon myself to take courses where I could learn about some of the current issues that women face. I remember feeling angry that there was only 1 paragraph in the history textbook that talked about this in high school. I knew if I had known more when I needed it the most, it would’ve made what I was experiencing so much easier. I also started to see that I had been advocating for women all my life but I just didn’t have a word for it. I literally didn’t know what it was. I am a feminist because I want to make sure that doesn’t happen to any other girl out there who thinks slut-shaming and discrimination based on gender is “normal”
