HOW DID YOU BECOME A FEMINIST? (Story)

So at the beginning of this year (8th grade) I was at school and I started getting weird vibes from my teacher. But, first couple week nerves are common and so I didn’t think to much of it. And then he started acting weird around a group of girls (including myself). By weird, I mean he would make guys do push ups in his class and make girls bend over and touch their toes (also a little sexist because he never let girls do push ups and never let guys show off their flexibility, but that’s not what the main part of this story’s about.). So, then, accusations start coming forward about him making strange comments to the female students. Like, “Wow. Is that shirt new? It’s great and beautiful and looks good on you.” And more creepy stuff like that. I tried to ignore it and stuff but it got to the point where I felt uncomfortable wearing just sweat pants and a sweat shirt. And then more things happened, especially to me. Anyways, I would catch him staring at inappropriate parts of my body and the same with other girls. I ignored it at first, but then two-three months went by with absolutely no change in his behavior. So, I went to my principale. He’s a great guy (my principale), but he didn’t really do anything. He “talked” with him but nothing never actually happened with the teacher. To this day, I just ignore it and pretend it’s not happening, even though I’ve talked to my principale way more than once. Turns out, up to five other girls have gone to my principale and said something, yet my teacher is still there, everyday, with no punishments that we know of. He hasn’t even missed two days in a row this whole school year so he wasn’t even suspended (even if he did, it would’ve been for one day and that’s it.). So a lot of girls at my school feel defenseless because nothing is done to really protect us. And this happens all the time. This whole situation also happened with a whole other teacher. In the same school. Around the same time. Once again, absolutely no punishments even though he was accused of secretly taking pictures of girls (and they caught him point his camera DIRECTLY at them (the only reason I know this for sure is because one of them is my best friend and literally, the day it happened, she ran up to me after getting out of his class, in hysterics and absolutely balling her eyes out over how he made her feel.)). This school has done nothing to protect their females from these gross, old men who are like child predators. It breaks my heart knowing that a whole new group of sixth graders are going to join this school next year and all the females are gonna have to go through exactly what we’ve gone through. Last point, these teachers have been around for so long, that my aunt reported the same two teachers to the principal. The exact two that my best friend and I have reported. And when I told my other friend this story, she responded with, “It was a different time. Things were different.” I literally responded with these words, “One, it’s actually not different times because it’s happening now. Two, just because it was a different time, that never and will never make it right.”
