I always felt strongly about the feminist ideals, but I adopted the true self-proclaimed “status” in sixth grade. I was sitting with a few friends, three boys. We were playing video games, like Nintendo games, and two of the boys kept “whispering” (they were very loud, I’m sure they wanted me to here). I still remember clearly what they said. One boy whispered “what if we raped her” and giggled, while the other whispered “I’m sure ****** wouldn’t have a problem with that” (****** was my boyfriend at the time, who was there with us but didn’t hear them). The fact that one of them genuinely joked and said they would rape me, not even denying the fact that it would’ve been rape, is so disgusting, and after that, I talked to my sister and she told me about feminism and what it meant to her. To me, feminism is to not live in fear constantly when walking home, or even driving home at night. To walk around without thinking of how I could escape someone who attacked me.
